Colour Stories
Thinking of trying your hands at wall designs? We have put together a simple guide with easy DIY projects that you can easily accomplish.
To ace this project, all you have to do is decide which room or wall you want to choose as your canvas. We recommend you choose your favourite wall for this wall painting DIY project.
Once you finalise on the wall or walls, don’t forget to prep it before you start painting or sprucing it up. Get rid of all the dust, dirt and grease spots.
Make sure to use painter’s tape on the windows, trims and doorframes if you are going to paint the entire wall. Prime the walls after you are done with taping. If you will not be changing the wall colour before making any designs on it, you need not use painter’s tape or even cover the furniture or flooring. However, if you are, then do protect your valuable furnishings, floor and furniture with proper covers.
For wall paint designs, you will be spoilt for choice with Berger’s iPaint range. There are some interesting and unique glow in dark wall stencils for you to choose from.
Once you have decided on your stencil, affix it on the spot with the help of a masking tape and apply the paint over it with a foam roller.
The good news is that this requires no professional help whatsoever and you can deep-dive into this painting task all by yourself despite being an absolute amateur with no prior learning or experience.
We have even got you covered with an instruction booklet that comes with a step-by-step guide on how to successfully execute it, making it a hassle-free and an enjoyable experience for you.
You can try the sponging technique if you fancy a blended and mottled effect. For this, you have to first apply a base coat with your favourite colour and allow it to dry for about 6-8 hours. Next, take a piece of sponge, hold it from one end, dip it in the second colour, cover the wall with either circular or spiral patterns in both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions. Cover the entire wall this way with these spiral patterns leaving no space in between. Let the paint dry for several hours and voila! You will get the effect as seen in the photo above. Colour Trivia
Colour Facts For January 2021
- According to Feng Shui, in the year 2021, the Year of Fox, the lucky colours are metallic grey and aqua blue. If you want to feel calm and rejuvenated, a combination of these colours on your home walls or decor is a great way to charge your living space with some positive vibes. For home interior colour, you can also use these colours solo eg. an accent wall in metallic grey will instantly brighten up an otherwise drab looking wall or aqua blue cushions and curtains will liven up the space to ring in the new year on a fresh note.
- With so many changes going on in the world over the past year, brands have not been willing to take many design risks. The approach of doing more with less has found its way even with design and colour trends for brands. Things that invoke a sense of calm, positivity and understanding in an ultra chaotic world has taken a center stage. This includes relying on old favourites like muted colour palettes, serif fonts and simple visualisations for clear communication. That’s why you will find many health and wellness brands use a muted colour palette this year to evoke feelings of safety and security.
- This year, Pantone has broken the tradition and revealed two colours for 2021, Ultimate Grey and Illuminating. It is hardly a surprise that two colours have been ruled as the official colours of the year. While colours play a major role in transporting us to a different mood, a combination of right colours is deemed powerful and transformative. An effectively blended colour combination creates an instant impact and ultimately makes a lasting statement. For hall interior colours ideas, choose a combination of dark grey and vibrant yellow accents for a bold look or create an accent wall in yellow and complement it with a vibrant white. Throw in some grey furnishings and textiles to complete the look.
Colour Quotes For January 2021
"I prefer living in color."
- David Hockney
"With color one obtains an energy that seems to stem from witchcraft."
- Henri Matisse
"To me, beauty and makeup and color is like the finishing touch on everything."
- Marc Jacobs
Colour Tips For January 2021
- Harmonious colour combinations for your living space can be created using colours that are near in the visual spectrum and complement each other. To begin with, you can pick your favourite colour and combine it with another colour belonging to the nearby family in arrangement of shades on the colour wheel. If you’re thinking of getting house painting any time soon, choose colours of similar densities for a balanced look so one does not overpower the other. For example, pick a muted peach shade and complement it with an accent wall in a lovely pastel orange.
- Choosing a colour palette for your new home can be exciting. The first thing you need to consider is the decor and furnishing you will be having in the space. The mood you wish to create will help you pick out colours for your new house painting. Eg: for industrial decor, colours like grey, black and white work best and for boho decor, pastels work best. Next, go room by room and work out the atmosphere you wish to create. Choose a base colour that you want to add to the majority of the house and then add accents in each room depending on the utility, function and existing decor.
- When deciding on house wall painting colours, don’t skip the research on the paint finish and texture. The same colour can differ constitutionally from the other, depending on the finish- flat/matte, eggshell or sheen. You can also use a combination of the same colour in different finishes to create real impact and texture within a scheme. Try painting a stripe of sheen paint on a matte wall in the same colour to create a striking, textured look. This is a great way to highlight certain walls in the house and maintain a consistent colour scheme.

Colours & Emotion For January 2021
- Colours are important to our every experience. The power of colour comes from our emotions – from how we think and feel when we see them in our daily lives. Ever wondered why rockstars love to dress up in all-black attire? Black stands for intrigue, mystery, secrecy and revolt. Rockstars like to create a sense of mystery and intrigue around them by wearing black. It is also deemed cool to wear that shade, making it a preferred choice for rock and roll musicians.
- In our waking state, colours stimulate emotions. Similarly, colours also arouse emotions in dreams. Surprisingly, they play a huge role in dreams. It is, in fact, fascinating to note that every colour possesses its own symbolism for each of us. Another interesting observation is that we often say that we have dreamt in colour but when we are asked about it, we fail to describe the colours that we see in the dreams, be it of an object, room colour or dress colour. Though dreaming is quite visual in nature, only those who have heightened awareness of colour during waking hours may be more likely to recall their dreams in colour than their less colour-aware counterparts. Intriguing, isn’t it?
Colours & Fashion For January 2021
For 2021, fashion pundits are putting their bets on oversized shoulder pad jackets in colours like powder blue, charcoal and neutrals. They are also predicting that there will be an interest in silky floral and intricate patterned head scarves. For handbags, yellow bags are believed to increase in value. Talking of footwear, it is the white knee-high boots that have received the nod from stylists. There is no reason your home should compromise in the style department. Add a splash of the Pantone colours - PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating as emulsion paint for your home walls to keep up with the latest trends.
Colours & Gems For January 2021
Paraiba Tourmaline
This sparkling gemstone is known as Paraiba Tourmaline. It is an exclusive neon blue to blue-green coloured gem variety belonging to the Tourmaline family. It is the only tourmaline that owes its magnificent vivid hue and intense glow to the copper element. Traditionally mined from Brazil, at present it is also found in Nigeria and Mozambique. A sight for sore eyes, it comes as no surprise that it is always appreciated by jewellery lovers and gem collectors. This extraordinary gem is also believed to heal respiratory ailments and the wearer is believed to benefit immensely from this dazzling beauty! Paying an ode to the beauty of this gemstone, you can choose this hue as your home’s interior wall paint.
Opal
The gemstone you are looking at is known as Opal. A display of nature’s wonder, it exhibits a kaleidoscope of colours like none other! While writers have held it on a pedestal comparing it to galaxies, fireworks and volcanoes, what is amusing to note is that it was once considered an unlucky stone owing to its negative mention in a novel written way back in the 1800s. In present day, it is considered to bring good fortune, peace and joy to the wearer.

Crimson Sunbird
This bird is called the Crimson Sunbird. It is the national bird of the Republic of Singapore. It can be found in gardens, parks and plantations in South-East Asia. The males are flaming red and sport a dark grey belly with a blue head. The females are dull olive-yellow with vibrant underparts.
Crimson Sunbirds mostly feed on nectar. However, during the breeding season, they eat insects to satisfy their own need for more protein in their diet and also to feed their young ones.

The flowers you are looking at in the photo are Petunias. These come in different colours, combinations, shapes and sizes. Some of the popular ones are Moonlight Bay, Sugar Daddy and Littletunia Indigo. Our personal favourite is Moonlight Bay that has a deep purple hue with creamy white petal borders. It is a beautiful combination that we would recommend as exterior house paint combinations for those thinking of a home exterior makeover. These flowers also symbolise the desire to never give up on hope. They represent peace and calm, which is why they are given to someone with whom you have recently had an argument with.

Surfaces You Need To Disinfect At Home If Someone Has Been Sick
Tackle these spots to minimise the spread of diseases
By taking the right precautions, it is quite possible to stop the spread of illnesses. When someone in your house is sick, cleaning surfaces and surroundings regularly is the most effective way to eradicate germs and viruses. But what areas and spots do you need to tackle to minimise the spread of diseases? Here’s everything you need to watch out for to get the job done:
High touch surfaces
When cleaning after someone sick, frequently-touched surfaces like light switches, doorknobs and handles, faucets and taps etc. should be a priority. Use an effective disinfectant spray for room like Berger Breathe Easy 24 that gives 24 hour protection to hard and soft surfaces and kills bacteria and viruses, including Covid-19 virus, with a single spray only. For light switches, exercise a bit more caution.
Electronics
Shared electronics like remote controls and gadgets are considered one of the most germiest items. After a sick person has been on the couch binge-watching shows, make sure you give the device a thorough wipe down. Pay close attention to spaces between the buttons. Ensure that you remove the batteries and turn the electronics off before disinfecting.
Trash cans and bins
When the trash is brimming with dirty tissues and wipes- it is no surprise that it becomes a breeding ground for germs. Once you have taken the trash out for the day, be sure to give the bin itself thorough disinfecting. You can use a disinfectant spray and allow it to dry before putting in a clean garbage liner.
Linens and towels
Launder bed sheets, towels, pillowcases in hot water and use a disinfecting detergent. Add blankets, throws and bathrobes to the laundry list too. For non-washable items, use Berger Breathe Easy 24 to kill bacteria and viruses.
Flooring
Floors are not a high-touch surface but they are highly susceptible to carry germs and viruses. The law of gravity turns floors into depositories of everything from soiled tissues to microscopic organisms. The best practice is to ensure the floor is clean and disinfected on a daily basis, especially if you have a big family. Berger BreatheEasy+Floor Cleaner kills 99.9% germs and cleans tough stains from the floor, ensuring your flooring stays clean and disinfected.
How Do Interior Designers Use Colour Theory
A quick cheat sheet guide to colour theory
Your home is your sanctuary. And when choosing a colour palette for your home, different shades and tones can evoke emotions and set different moods. We consulted our design and colour experts to tell us how our readers can use colour theory and make their spaces exude their unique personalities and styles. Let’s explore how:
Cool colours are soothing while warm colours are energising
Cool colours like blue, purple and green evoke calming and soothing feelings. Warm colours like orange, red and yellow bring energy and enigma to a space. Think of cool colours as the serene sky and warm colours as the illuminating sun.
Use complementary colours
Two hues that lie on opposite sides of the colour wheel are complementary colours. When these colours come together, they become stronger than if they were used standalone. However, this does not mean you paint one wall red and the other green for hall interior colour, but by thinking of ways you can add these colours in accents such as wall trimmings or even pillows and furniture can complement the surrounding area.
Pick colours based on the purpose of the room
When choosing interior wall painting designs and colours, remember that a bedroom is a space to relax and destress and should be calming and rejuvenating. Passive, neutral and muted pastel tones have a calming effect, ideal for this space. For high energetic areas like the living room and home office, active, brighter tones will stimulate the mind and body, evoking energy and creativity.
Lighting can change everything
Picking the right wall colour is one step, testing the colour in different lights is another. It is important to test how the colour looks in different lights- a colour can look different with certain interior light sources as well.
Best Wall Colours For Your Living Room
From neutrals to pastels to bright accents
The living room is probably the most frequently used and popular room in the house. The design and atmosphere of the living room are meant to be inviting and comforting all at once- considering this is where family and friends relax, dine and live in. The wall colour you choose for this space sets the tone for the rest of the decor, furniture, accessories and adjoining rooms. If you’re looking for some inspiration, these designer-approved hall interior colours will not let you down:
Clean white
A crisp, clean white is totally timeless. Even though some people consider white walls as plain boring, white is a versatile shade that can match any decor style or aesthetics. So, even if your interior design taste changes over time, you can mix and match the decor in the space, the white walls will complement your design choices.
Blissful beige
If white is just not your thing, neutral tones of beige is a great alternative. Layer it up and you can transport yourself to your favourite tropical place. Add subtle hints with bamboo and wicker.
Pastel peach
Tones of peach have shaken off its sickly sweet image with soft, pastel hues ranging from delicate peach blossom to peach blush. Pair peach tones with classic grey tones for the Mediterranean feel or choose an eclectic mix of brown and green furnishings.
Powder blue
Just looking at a blue room can slow down your pace and calm you down. If you want your living room to be more relaxing and calming, powder blue is a great choice for room interior colour. A monochromatic palette will help focus on architectural details and dramatic statement pieces in the room.
Sunny yellow
A vibrant shade of yellow can instantly add character and warmth to the living room. To bring home Pantone Colours of The Year 2021, Illuminating and Ultimate Grey, we suggest walls painted in a bright shade of yellow that will provide the ideal backdrop for the furniture and textiles in grey tones. Add further rays of sunshine with brighter yellow accessories to complement the walls.

To start with, carve out a corner or entire room for your Reiki session. If you have a balcony, you could also set up a spot there to escape the noise and tune into nature to quieten your body and mind.

Begin with a daily or nightly routine to welcome in positive energy. It can be something as simple as lighting up a scented candle or an incense stick.
In Reiki, crystals are known to hold certain vibrations. The easiest way to activate any crystal is to sage it first. After that, you need to sit in meditation and invoke the feeling you want the crystal to carry. Hold onto the crystal and it will retain the vibration.
Incense is believed to naturally uplift the spirits and raise positive vibrations. The burning of incense is usually accompanied by invocation and prayers. Pick a scent specifically for your meditation goal. If you are looking to relieve stress, choose rose and fragrant lavender. To attract positivity into your life, pick patchouli.
Plants are not only visually appealing but also help our environment as they convert carbon dioxide into oxygen. Placing a plant in your Reiki room can add a touch of natural energy into the space.
