When we break the word “kimono” into two, we are left with ki, which means “wear,” and mono, which means “thing.” A kimono, then, is a “thing to wear.” The silken, long-sleeved robes are admired all over the world for their beautiful prints and vibrant colour shades – striking fuchsia pinks, deep blues and flashy geranium reds. Interestingly, the shape and colour of a Kimono reveals certain hints about its wearer. A Japanese woman clothed in red robe would be better understood as communicating a message of prosperity. Interesting how a colour can be symbolic, isn’t it?
